In Person

Most Wright County public court records can be reviewed on computer terminals located in the public hallway of the Wright County Justice Center in Buffalo. Plain (uncertified) or certified copies of Wright County court documents can also be obtained directly from the Court Administrator's service counter. Requesters will need to sufficiently identify the records they seek and pay the fees assessed by the Court Administrator.

There is no cost assessed for the plain copy of a court record, but a $14 fee applies to procure a certified copy, per the Current District Court Fee Schedule. Fees are payable by cash, check, or credit card.

While many in-person requests have a same-day turnaround time, voluminous requests or requests for files for which redaction of confidential data is needed may incur additional processing times.

Criminal Records Access in Wright County

Notwithstanding, public access comes with certain statutory limitations:

  • The general public can only view conviction data for a maximum of 15 years following the completion of a sentence. All arrest information, cases that did not culminate in a conviction, convictions whose sentences were completed over 15 years ago, and juvenile criminal history profiles are private records. Shielded documentation is only released to the subject of the record (through a formal data request) and other legally authorized entities.
  • The CHS portal accepts only name and date-of-birth queries, leading to the distinct possibility of false matches among persons with overlapping identifiers (that is, identical or similar names/dates of birth).

Wright County Probate Records

Probate is a judicial proceeding whereby the court issues a final ruling on the distribution and settlement of a deceased person's estate. When such proceedings are filed in Wright County, they are adjudicated in the District Court. This court, through local administration, also preserves all documentation from probate cases.
